Vermilion Parish School Board honors Campbell with dedication
The Vermilion Parish School Board honored one of its own Thursday night.
Long-time school board member Charles Campbell is battling cancer and has missed a few meetings lately.
Campbell has been in education most of his life, starting with being a teacher and working his way up to the college level. He has been on the school board for 20 straight years.
Because of his accomplishments in education, the school board decided to honor him by naming a conference room located in the Annex Center at Central Office.
There is a conference room to the left of the entrance of the Annex Center. Board members voted to name the conference room the Charles Campbell Conference Room.
Also, School Board Member Anthony Fontana made a motion to name the chair that Campbell sits in the “Charles Campbell Chair.”
The School Board also made a resolution thanking Campbell for his work in education.
“I had the pleasure of serving with Mr. Campbell for more than 20 years,” Fontana said. “He is a board member of extraordinary talent. He came from a humble beginning.
“No one worked harder to represent his constituents. He was a fighter for the people who never got a break. He was more than that. What impressed me was that Charles was looking to the future and not the past. He believed the board can make the future much better than the past.”
Campbell was not just about his parish, said Fontana. “He believed he served the entire parish. Any one could come to him and he would listen and bring his request to the board.”
