Vermilion Parish says goodbye to retiring educators with 1,300 years of experience

It was the end of an education career for 46 individuals, who were recognized because they retired from the Vermilion Parish School Board.
The total amount of years in education of the 46 equaled to 1,300 years.
The person with the most years in the parish belonged to Vickie Nunez, who had 44 years. She began working for the school board in 1969. She spent most of her career at the central office.
Beryl Buck had the most years teaching out of the group. Buck, an English teacher at Abbeville High and Erath Middle School, had 40 years in education.
Two principals were on the retiree list: Lynn Moss from Erath Middle and Priscilla Cormier of Seventh Ward Elementary.
About half of the 46 retirees attended a retirement gathering in the Abbeville High School cafeteria.
They were given special gifts and thanked for the dedication to education in Vermilion Parish.
Superintendent Jerome Puyau offered his thanks for their dedication of education to the parish.
“I would like to thank our retirees for their many years of educating and supporting the students of Vermilion Parish,” said Puyau. “I am proud of the many accomplishments that we have made over the years and I am glad you were part of our successes. Please remember that you are not just retiring from our school system, but you are retiring from some of the most important jobs in the world. Each and every position plays an integral part in providing the knowledge and experiences to our children so they can chase their dreams. Your experience will be truly missed.”
