Vermilion Parish Police Jury employees will get $1 an hour pay raise in 2015
Members of the Vermilion Parish Police Jury voted to give all of its employees a $1 an hour pay raise in 2015.
The pay raise is for full time employees, who are on salary, as well as, hourly employees. The $1 an hour raise will cost the police jury $55,000 extra a year. Then after going over its finances, the police jury voted to give its part-time employees a $1 an hour raise also.
They even voted to give their attorney, Paul Moresi III a $1 an hour raise.
The extra $1 an hour raise will cost the Police Jury around $75,000 a year.
So, full-time and part-time employees will be making a $1 more an hour when 2015 begins.
For full-time employees, it means around $2,000 more a year.
“All of our employees deserve this $1 an hour raise,” said Juror Errol Domingues.
Then the jurors dealt with giving the district attorney’s secretary raises. They agreed to give them a .25 cent an hour raise.
After giving raises to its employees, the jurors discussed about ways to finance the construction of a new $1.2 million building for the LSU Ag Center to be used for the parish’s 4-H Club.
The building proposal is over 5,000 square feet and it would be used as a meeting place for farmers, and 4-H students. It would also have a large kitchen where 4-Hers can learn how to prepare meals, and it would also gave a virtual room for students to take virtual classes.
The jurors tossed around ideas and juror Mark Poché proposed rededicating a portion of the Health Unit Tax to help pay for the construction of the building. Poché said, if the parish voters approve, the jury could take $1.2 million from the Health Unit tax and use the money to construct the building. It would be a one time thing, Poché said.
Voters will have to give their OK to allow the Police Jury to use the money. It is expected to be on the ballot sometime in 2015.
