Vermilion Parish does have some storm damage from Monday morning storm

Monday morning Vermilion Parish residents had to deal with a fast moving storm that caused some damage throughout the parish.
Residents west of North Vermilion High School are expected to be without power for the rest of day.
A total of 6,900 Entergy customers lost power throughout Acadiana. It is not known how many Entergy customers lost power in Vermilion Parish.
Cecil Picard Elementary in Maurice is expected to shut down around noon due to partial lost of electricity. Parents of Cecil Picard Elementary were contact by the School Board.
North Vermilion High School and Middle School did not lose power on Monday.
Maurice Mayor Wayne Theriot said he kept a close eye on the situation both during and after the heavy storms.
“I am looking at the Entergy map right now,” Theriot said shortly before 11 a.m. Monday. “We have two outages. One is around the school. The other one is a little north off of Vincent Street. There was a tree down off of Vincent. It looked like it took some of the electrical connections to where it affected one customer.”
Maurice workers did have to cut a tree out of a power line near the post office on John Road.
“We had to call Entergy to shut off the power so they could cut the tree,” Theriot said.
Theriot traveled the Maurice limits after weather conditions improved.
“We rode around and didn’t see any more trees down,” Theriot said. “It definitely could have been worse.”
In Abbeville, city workers had to deal with a few branches falling on the roadways.
On West Oak Street, in the historical district by the Vermilion River, a large oak branch fell on a small bridge on Oak Street.
The branch went across the bridge, making traffic not passable.
Once the bad weather moved on, Abbeville city workers were on the scene cutting and clearing the branches.
City workers also dealt with a transformer sparking at Rue de Chene Vert neighborhood near Godchaux Park.
Residents on Rue de Chene Vert did lose power Monday morning.
More than 37,000 households in Acadiana are without power following severe weather that passed through this morning, according to KATC.
Entergy reports 6,930 customers without electricity. An Entergy spokeswoman said power is expected to be restored by 10 p.m.
SLEMCO officials said in a news release that almost 18,000 customers remain without power. That’s down from 25,000 - 30,000 when the storms first hit, officials said.
The SLEMCO outages are widespread, with numerous downed power lines and trees.
CLECO spokeswoman Robbyn Cooper said 12,256 customers are without power in Acadiana. The power company has more than 28,000 customers out statewide, with more expected as the storm moves east through Louisiana.
There is no timetable yet on when power will be restored to CLECO customers.
LUS reports about 1,100 customers still without power in Lafayette. Power has been restored to about 2,000 homes and businesses.
LUS expects to have all power restored by this afternoon.
