Vermilion Narcotics Unit arrests three after search
According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
On March 16 agents with Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics division executed a search warrant on a mobile home camper located on La. Hwy. 338.
Upon receiving information that illicit narcotics activity was being conducted at the location, agents traveled to the area to investigate the complaints. Upon arriving at the camper, several suspects were outside, and upon seeing the agents the suspects hurriedly went back into the camper.
Agents could hear rummaging around the camper and two suspects emerged after agents knocked and announced their presence. One suspect remained in the camper and would not exit. After being advised there were loaded weapons in the camper, and locating illicit drugs, and paraphernalia on the suspects, agents applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Once the warrant was in hand agents enlisted to aid of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 in one last attempt to get the last suspect, Joel Cessac (dob 3/16/83) of Abbeville to come out. Cessac complied at that time, and agents cleared the camper.
Upon further search it was noticed that the suspects had indeed flushed suspected crystal methamphetamine down the toilet, due to agents finding baggies and residue in the toilet. Agents continued the search and located illicit narcotics and weapons within the residence.
Three persons in all were taken into custody:
- Joel Cessac (dob 3/16/83) of Abbeville was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Methamphetamine and obstruction of justice.
- Dennison Babin (bob 2/11/77) of Abbeville, arrested and charged with possession of Schedule II narcotic (Lortab), possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, obstruction of justice, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine
- Hali Bertrand (dob 11/2/90) of Abbeville, arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and obstruction of justice.
