VC expected to remain No. 2 in power point rankings

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles scored 27 points in the second quarter and went on to cruise to a 48-14 win over Lafayette Christian.
The Eagles finish the regular season at 7-3 and are in a three-way tie for the district title.
They are tied with Central Catholic, Ascension Episcopal, who each have one district loss.
The Eagles received a bit of good news at the end of the game. Ascension Catholic lost its first game of the season, falling to Central Catholic in a district.
The unofficial power ranking has Ascension Episcopal seated No. 1 and VC No. 2 in the Division IV ranking.
Central Catholic, before the win, was No. 5. Now it's No. 3.
The VC win and the Ascension loss could make the Eagles the No. 1 seed heading into playoffs. But according to unofficial websites, VC stays No. 2. If that is the case, No. 15 Grambling (6-4) is expected to travel to Abbeville in the first round.
.The official pairings will be announced by the LHSAA Sunday at 10 a.m. The top 16 teams in the Division IV will be named.
VC will be seeded first or second, which means it will play the No. 16 or No. 15 seed teams.
In Friday’s win, for the first time in a long time, another team passed for more yards than Vermilion Catholic.
Lafayette Christian had 229 yards passing, while VC had only 197.
VC QB Hunter Frith was 11 out of 20 for 197 yards and four TDs.

The Eagles also had 92 rushing yards and finished with 289 yards - 7 more than LC.
The Eagles scored their first touchdown at the 1:52 mark in the first period. VC QB Hunter Frith completed a 13-yard pass to Emile Trahan. Trahan nailed the first of five extra points for VC.
Frith found Tyler Derouen twice for two touchdowns. He caught a 66-yarder and a 25-yarder, all in the second quarter.
Derouen also had an interception returned for a touchdown in the same quarter.
The Eagles put the ball on the ground in the second half. Kalix Broussard had 11 yard TD in the third quarter. Broussard had 6 carries for 28 yards.
Derouen added five carries for 18 and Alex LeBlanc carried the pigskin five times for 16 yards.
The leading tacklers for VC were: William Noegel (9 - 5 solos, 4 assists), Grayson Dubois ( 8 - 4 solos, 4 assists), Andre Girouard (4 - 2 solos, 2 assists), Isaiah Pillette (4 - 2 solos, 2 assists) and Hunter Frith (4 - 2 solos and 2 assists).
