Two police chiefs win elections

Two police departments in Vermilion Parish will continue under the same leadership for the next four years.
Voters in Erath re-elected Gerald Hebert, who has served as police chief for the last two terms.
Hebert had 687 votes (69 percent) to John Toups with 303 votes (31 percent).
Voters in Maurice did the same, giving longtime Police Chief Warren Rost another term.
Rost had 295 votes (63 percent) while Brian Baumgardner had 170 votes (37 percent).
“I would like to thank all the voters for their support,” Rost said. “I appreciate the trust they have put in me for another four years.”
Rost said he will work hard to make the most of those four years.
“We are going to continue to make sure the Village of Maurice remains safe and is a good place for children,” Rost said.
Rost has served as Maurice’s chief of police for 32 years. This election marks the third time Rost has had a challenger for the position. Rost defeated Pat Hardy for the office in 2010.
Hebert will be sworn in in January to begin his third term.
“I would like to thank the people of Erath for their support,” said Hebert. “I will do my best to continue to move the town forward.”
