Traffic stop turns into chase

Driver ends up in Kaplan, runs under house to hide

KAPLAN - A traffic stop resulted in a police chase which ended on Lemaire Street in Kaplan.
Robert Senegal, 27, of Kaplan and his passenger, Lawrence St. Julien, also of Kaplan, were traveling on Highway 700 near Maurice when police tried to stop Senegal for an outstanding warrant in connection with a parole violation. Senegal sped off leading the police into the Kaplan city limits where he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. St. Julien was arrested while Senegal took cover under a home.
State Police S.W.A..T teams were called in while a perimeter was set up around the home where Senegal was thought to be hiding. At the time, Senegal was considered armed and dangerous.
Two homes were evacuated while S.W.A.T. conducted their search. A K-9 unit found eventually found Senegal underneath a home covered in mud and only wearing underwear. He was taken into police custody without incidence.
Authorities suspect Senegal was under the influence of drugs, or alcohol, at the time of his arrest.
Senegal is charged with speeding (90 mph in a 55), aggravated flight, resisting arrest, simple criminal damage to property, outstanding warrant (probation) and wreckless operation. Police do say Senegal has a long and violent criminal history.
