Stolen lawn mowers recovered, arrests made

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Patrol Division responded to a complaint in reference to a theft that occurred at 14239 St. Elmo Road in Delcambre.
The complainant advised that a black 16’ utility trailer with a front drop gate and a rear drop gate was stolen along with three zero-turn lawn mowers. The lawn mowers were a 60” Gravely, 66” Gravely and a 32” Snapper Pro.
On Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, the VPSO Investigations Division obtained video surveillance showing a white extended cab Ford, F150 with aftermarket rims heading in a Northerly direction, away from the residence, pulling what appeared to be the stolen trailer and mowers.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, VPSO Investigations Division posted pictures of the stolen lawn mowers and trailer on Facebook.
Early Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, a citizen of Iberia Parish contacted the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Dept. and advised that he had purchased a trailer and 3 mowers that he thought might be the ones his employee had seen on Facebook.
VPSO and Iberia Parish Investigative Divisions responded to a location on La. Hwy. 14 in New Iberia and recovered two mowers and the trailer. The third mower was recovered on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015.
Samuel Louis Tift, Jr., w/m, dob 10/07/1964, was arrested by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office for possession of stolen things and theft by fraud while VPSO issued a warrant for Tift for Felony Theft with a $20,000 bond. He will be transferred to VPCC at a later date.
Charles “Chuck” Aubin, w/m, dob 08/14/1969, was arrested by VPSO for Felony Theft and is currently incarcerated awaiting a bond to be set.
