Six Vermilion Parish softball teams land in playoffs
The brackets for the 2014 softball season have finally been released and for the first time in a long time six of the seven schools in Vermilion Parish are headed to the playoffs.
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats, with their 10-10 record, are ranked 31st in the power rankings. They will face off against the No. 2 seeded Kaplan Lady Pirates.
This is the first time the Lady Wildcats have made the playoffs in nine years.
“We are proud of everything we have accomplished this year,” Abbeville Head Coach Ivy Landry said. “We hope to continue this success.”
The Lady Pirates finished the season with a 22-5 overall record and won the District 6-3A title.
These two teams will face off tomorrow afternoon at Kaplan’s field.
Game-time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
“We would have preferred to have played someone out of our district, but we will play hard anyway,” Landry said about playing Kaplan for the third time this year.
The North Vermilion Lady Patriots also qualified for the playoffs as the seventh seed, with a record of 19-5.
The Lady Patriots will play host to Thomas Jefferson Saturday afternoon.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
“I’m pretty happy that we are in at seven,” North Vermilion Head Coach Richard Prejean said. “I thought that we would get in as an eight or nine seed. It does kind of bother me that we have been off all week. I hope we didn’t get rusty, but at the same time it helps us heal up.”
The Erath Lady Bobcats are also going to be joining in on the playoffs.
The Lady Bobcats finished the season with a 16-15 record which was good enough to earn them the 24th seed.
They will travel to take on St. Louis on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Delcambre Lady Panthers are going to be hosting Haynes Academy in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
The Lady Panthers earned the 10 seed, with a 20-7 record.
The time and date of the game had not been determined by the time the paper went to print.
The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles are going to be traveling to Hanson for the first round of the state playoffs.
They will take their 22nd seed, which they earned with an 11-13 overall record.
They will travel to Hanson on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
