Single-vehicle crash claims life of Kaplan woman

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, deputies with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated a single-vehicle fatality crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old Kaplan woman.
Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon said that the victim, Mariah Marceaux, was traveling south bound on Lionel Road in a 2002 Honda Accord when she failed to negotiate a curve onto Waldo Road and struck a ditch and telephone pole causing the vehicle to flip and the victim to be ejected.
Sheriff Couvillon said that the victim was extricated from beneath the vehicle by District 13 and 7th Ward Fire Departments and pronounced deceased by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office.
Two adult male passengers in the vehicle were transported to a Lafayette Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
