Rezoning will not happen this year

Board will decide to push it back until 2016-2017

The Vermilion Parish School Board is expected to push back rezoning for another year, based on a letter School Board President Anthony Fontana sent to his board members on Friday.
Fontana explained in the letter because of how long the school board worked on the health insurance issues, time was running out to try and rezone before August, the start of next school year.
“It is my opinion that the Board does not have an adequate amount of time to fully analyze and discuss the issues involved in trying to address school zoning for the 2016-2017 school year. For this reason, I will not place before the Board any agenda item dealing with any zoning issue until the 2017-2018 school year.”
Fontana instructed the school board members to advise their principals and get the word out to constituents, “...so there will not be any needless worry at this time,” he wrote.
What this means is that next year, students will stay at the same school they are at today.
The school board was trying to rezone in the northern part of Vermilion Parish to help with over crowding at North Vermilion High and Middle Schools, along with the elementary schools.
