Reported armed robbery results in partial lockdown of J.H. Williams in Abbeville

Incident not direct threat to school

An armed robbery Tuesday morning reportedly resulted in the partial lockdown of J.H. Williams Middle School in Abbeville.
The robbery reportedly occurred in the area, but officials with the Abbeville Police Department said they do not believe the suspect is in the vicinity of the school.
Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau said classes and other school activities are continuing as scheduled as there is not immediate threat.
For a partial lockdown, all of the outside doors of the school are locked. No one can enter or leave the building under a partial lockdown.
Abbeville Police Lt. David Hardy said the armed robbery did not take place at a business. A male suspect holding a handgun reportedly approached a man. No further details are available at this time.
