Policemen throughout state will be in Abbeville for funeral

Family and friends will say goodbye Friday to Allen Bares Jr., a veteran Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Erath.
Among the many offering a final goodbye will be Bares’ brothers and sisters from law enforcement agencies in and around Vermilion Parish, as well as the rest of the state.
Louisiana State Police Trooper First Class Stephen Hammons asked the public to be aware of the influx of law enforcement arriving for the services, as well as the procession traveling to Erath.
“This is truly a sad time for all law enforcement, but particularly the men an women of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office,” Hammons said. “We ask the public to please be patient as that procession is moving through. Certainly, it will take some time as it comes through and we understand that.
“This is in honor of a person who died serving and protecting the people of this wonderful parish.”
