The first week of January has ended and lots of people have gotten started on their resolutions. People all over are making changes and setting goals to make this year better than the last. Let’s see what local people are trying to change this year, and hear their thoughts on New Year’s resolutions and making changes.
Cami Duhon, a 19-year-old Abbeville resident, says her resolution is just to be happier this year.
Duhon said that she has been keeping up with her resolution so far and is just generally trying to be a happier, more positive person. She says that she wasn’t unhappy last year, she just wants to make this year happier than the last.
Duhon also shared her personal opinion on resolutions saying, “If you find room for improvement then you should make changes, if not then you should just keep being you.”
Jill Reed, a 22-year-old who is a new mother, made her resolution to live healthier, be comfortable in her own skin, and be confident in the decisions she makes as a mother.
She has been keeping up with her resolution so far because she is passionate in her belief that it is not only what is best for her, but also what is best for her son.
Reed says she has never made resolutions in the past because she always thought she was destined to fail or give up. She believes people should strive to better themselves always, not just at the beginning of the year. Though she also stated that New Years is a good time to acknowledge the changes that need to be made throughout the year.
Reed said people should tell themselves every January “This is my year, and I’m going to make it great.”
Dennie Dubois, a Broussard resident, currently battling stage three breast cancer, has a resolution a little different than most. Her plan for this year is to be a survivor and not a statistic. Dubois has a very positive attitude through her healing process stating “failure is not an option.”
Her goal for 2015 is to make it to 2016 cancer free so she can one day see her two daughters grow into adults. “I plan to one day see my youngest graduate, and my oldest get married and start a family”, says Dubois.
She says that it’s not only important for people to make changes on January first each year. She states “If there’s one thing this has taught me, it’s that tomorrows are not promised, live your life for today.”
She believes people should continue to make plans for the future, but never stop living in the moment.
“Love like no one’s ever hurt you, smile often, and be kind always,” says Dubois. “You
never know what other people may be going through.”
Jennifer Hebert, a 28 year old Abbeville resident, says she has no specific resolution, but still intends to make it a good year.
Hebert tries to make a resolution each year but eventually gets caught up in reality and forgets.
She does not believe that it is important to make a resolution each year, but does think it’s important to start each year with a fresh new outlook.
“Each year people should strive to be a little more generous, a little more patient, and have a little more compassion for others”, says Hebert.
Jennifer’s goal for 2015 is to keep her family happy and healthy, and make herself a better person in any way she can.
Brock Duhon, a 19-year-old Maurice resident, says his resolution is just to workout and exercise more this year.
Duhon has tried to make resolutions in the past and usually forgets, but he has kept up with his resolution so far this year. He does not believe it is important to make changes every year and thinks no one should have to change all the time. He says that people should only make changes when they feel they need to.
Emily Deshotel, a 20 year old, made a resolution for the first time this year. Her goal for 2015 is to build relationships with people and make more real friends.
She has been keeping up with it so far and even says that she has already made some new friends this year.
Deshotel states that though this is her first resolution she does believe that it is very important to make changes come every January.
“It reminds us that there is always something that we can improve on, and gives us something to strive for,” Deshotel said.
Different people, from different places, of all different ages seem to agree that the beginning of each year is a time to look at who you are and make changes when necessary. It’s up to us to make the changes in ourselves to be the person we always hoped to be. So set goals, never stop thriving to achieve what you want, and make this year your most fantastic year yet.
