N.R. Broussard donates old Abbeville post office to school board
The former Abbeville post office has been donated.
James Noel of Sunrise Realty announced this week that N. R. Broussard has donated the former Abbeville Post Office to the Vermilion Parish School Board.
Broussard’s original company, Broussard Brothers, was first established in 1947, and since then has expanded into one of the largest conglomerates in the parish employing more than 450 people.
Broussard stated that he was very happy to donate the building to the Vermilion Parish School Board in the hopes that it could be used for the benefit of the community and all of the children the School Board is responsible for supporting.
Jerome Puyau, superintendent, for Vermilion Parish schools, stated that “on behalf of the Vermilion Parish School Board, we would like to thank Mr. Broussard for his donation of the building that housed the Abbeville Post Office. Over the next two years, we will be restoring the building to its original beauty, which will help revitalize downtown Abbeville. We know that this will be an asset to the community, staff, teachers and specially the students of Vermilion Parish.”
The “Old Abbeville Post Office” is situated in the heart of Abbeville and will one day be the home of the Virtual Vermilion Academy for students, Puyau said.
Virtual academies provide an alternative to regular “brick and mortar” schools for students who want a choice in their educational setting. The building will also house two large conference rooms to help provide the resources and training that our staff and teachers need to be successful with the new rigorous state curriculum.
Puyau said, “The Vermilion Parish School Board (VPSB) takes pride in the fact that we are one of the best educational systems in the state. VPSB currently ranks number 11 in the state due to the dedication of our staff, teachers, and central office personnel. We work as a team to educate all students so that they can be successful in school and their future careers. Donations like this will help provide the resources and facilities needed for Vermilion Parish to continue to be one of the best places to live in Louisiana.”
“Working with these two outstanding organizations has been a real pleasure and I feel certain it will be a great benefit to our community,” stated Noel.
