New Abbeville ornament features Steen’s
For the last 11 years, a collectable ornament depicting landmarks in Abbeville has been created in correlation with the annual Christmas Stroll.
With stroll set for this Thursday evening in Downtown Abbeville, the 12th ornament is now available.
“We have received calls for them already,” Abbeville Main Street Manager Charlene Beckett said. “People like to collect the whole set.”
Over the years, the ornament has featured the Sam Guarino Blacksmith Shop, the Beauxis Building, the Depot, Pere Megret, Abbeville City Hall, Bank of Abbeville, the Gazebo, the Vermilion Parish Courthouse, the downtown city bridge and St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. The Vermilion Parish School System building graced the ornament last year.
This year’s ornament, once again designed by local artist Jeannie Comeaux, depicts a famous Abbeville sight.
“We picked the Steen’s syrup cans,” Beckett said. “It is such a well-known brand.
“You can say that it’s iconic.”
Beckett said the ornament was done with the blessing of the Steen family.
“They were very pleased to give us permission,” Beckett said.
The results of the ornament create a similar feeling.
“I am so pleased with the result,” Beckett said. “The color is great. Every year there are details that need to be changed. This is the first one that came out perfect.
“I feel like we are going to sell a lot of these.”
The ornament is $16 and can be purchased at the Depot at Magdalen Place, Piazza’s Office Supply and at Abbeville City Hall.
“It’s such a unique ornament,” Beckett said.
