Mitchell indicted for murder in shooting death of Kyle Trahan

Derrick Mitchell is currently incarcerated at the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center on a First Degree Murder charge for the shooting death of Darryll Broussard, Jr. on December 20, 2012.
After gathering sufficient evidence, the Abbeville Police Department presented the case involving the shooting death of Kyle Trahan on Dec. 7, 2012, to a Grand Jury on Nov. 16, 2015.
Mitchell was indicted on the charge of First Degree Murder for the shooting death of Trahan.
Mitchell was accidentally released from a prison in north Louisiana in March 2015, after being indicted on a First Degree Murder charge for the shooting death of Broussard.
A joint investigation between the F.B.I. and the Abbeville Police Department was initiated to locate Mitchell. Mitchell was located in California where he was taken into custody. Mitchell has since been extradited back to Louisiana and remains incarcerated.
Mitchell is being held without bond. He faces the death penalty if convicted.
Assistant District Attorney J.N. Prather Jr. will be prosecuting the case for 15th Judicial District Attorney Keith Stutes’ Office.
