Meaux named USDA district conservationist
Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservations Service (NRCS) welcomed Kody Meaux as the new District Conservationist in Ruston, Louisiana.
"I grew up in Abbeville, Louisiana, Vermilion Parish, and have been fortunate to work with NRCS in that area of the state, and also in north Louisiana, "said Meaux. "Working in different areas of Louisiana has given me a good appreciation and understanding of our state's rich diversity of resources, cultures, and cultural practices. I am excited to be in Ruston and look forward to working with the ag producers in this area."
Meaux began working with NRCS in 2008 as a student intern in the Lafayette and Crowley Field Offices until he earned a B.S. in Sustainable Agriculture with a concentration in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Since graduating, he has worked in the DeRidder, Winnsboro, and Rayville Field Offices as a Soil Conservationist; where he gained valuable experience working with conservation systems in multiple land use categories.
Meaux is working hand-in-hand with the D'arbonne and Dugdemona Soil and Water Conservation Districts, NRCS technical specialists, and other conservation
partners to deliver conservation technical assistance and Farm Bill programs to agricultural producers in Lincoln and Jackson Parishes. With the help of voluntary programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), and Conservation Technical Assistance (CTA), NRCS offers financial and technical assistance to help producers make and maintain conservation improvements on their land.
