Major Crime Task Force meets in Abbeville

The first official meeting of the recently formed Vermilion Parish/City of Abbeville Major Crimes Task Force was held Wednesday in Abbeville.
According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the dedication of these Agencies involved (Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, Abbeville Police Department, Abbeville City Marshal’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana State Police and District Attorney’s Office) gives him confidence that those responsible for many of these crimes will be brought to justice.
Sheriff Couvillon says that the goal of this Task Force is to fully investigate all unsolved homicides and/or violent crimes within the City of Abbeville and/or Vermilion Parish in an attempt to identify the suspect(s) responsible for those
homicides.
“When embarking upon such a task,” Sheriff Couvillon said, “it is paramount that a cohesive plan of action be established between all agencies involved with specific goals and objectives and after attending this first meeting. I am confident that we have assembled a group of investigators with the experience and knowledge to execute these goals and objectives.
“I want to thank all of the agencies involved in this effort for committing these professional men and women to this Task Force. It is our hope that we succeed in bringing those responsible for these violent crimes to justice.”
