Landry says he will not resign from Abbeville council

Wayne Landry announced during a meeting in April that he considered stepping down from his District D seat on the Abbeville City Council.
Landry confirmed Tuesday during a regular city council meeting that he will in fact not resign. Landry made the announcement during his allotted comment time.
“I have enjoyed being a councilman during the last several years,” Landry said. “It is one of the greatest tasks that I have ever taken up.”
Landry said personal reasons played a part in his consideration to leave his seat.
“For the last year we have been dealing with some things,” said Landry, who did not go into further detail. “My wife and I talked about the option of me stepping down.”
Discussion with constituents and others factored into Landry’s ultimate decision to continue to represent District D, something he has done since 2008. He won re-election in spring of ‘14.
“I had 65 percent of the people elect me,” Landry said. “I think that speaks volumes. I spoke to people around Abbeville and those people support me.
“My decision is that I will not step down because of the people who support me.”
