Koryn grows during run on ‘The Voice’

By Chris Rosa, Managing Editor

Koryn Hawthorne left Abbeville a normal 17-year-old kid six weeks ago. This week she returns a mature, well-rounded, out-going woman.
"The Voice” is over for Koryn. What that means is that her life is going to try and get back to normal when she returns to Abbeville this week. The future is also still in the air for the new singing sensation.
But I’m warning you, this will not be the same Koryn who left Abbeville to go chase a singing dream. The new Koryn is now confident that she can handle anything that is thrown at her. She proved that the last six weeks.
Her mom Summers Simon has been impressed with how her daughter has handled her time on "The Voice.” The two of them have had to deal with 12 hour days of make up, wardrobes, interviews, practice and more practice. The day normally begins at 5:30 a.m. and ends after 9 p.m. Where Koryn goes, her mom is by her side because she is a minor.
“It is amazing she never complains,” said Summers after Monday’s show. “Koryn just goes along with it. There have been some long days. I’m glad I have been there to be her support throughout this entire process.”
For Koryn, it’s worth every bit of energy.
“I’m doing so much I never would have thought I could do,” said Koryn. “There are a lot of early mornings and late nights. I did not think I had it in me to do that. Overall, I have grown as a person. I am so thankful for this opportunity.”
After every show , the four singers are brought into a large room and walk along a red carport and interviewed by at least 50 different media outlets from the United States. It is mainly TV and the Internet outlets doing the interviews. They are asking her the same questions. The whole process takes over an hour. Koryn is by far the best interview because she is the most outgoing, said Ruben of Ruben Jay Productions.
After about 50 minutes of walking the red carpet doing interviews, Koryn’s production people tell her it’s time to go and encourage her not to talk to the last two web broadcasters. She stops anyway and does the five minute interview.
“I’m glad she stopped,” said the lady who did the interview. “That shows a lot about her character. She could have just walked by but she didn’t.”
That’s Koryn just being Koryn.
