Kaplan police still looking for vehicle that hit car from behind causing death of driver

A week after a hit and run accident that caused the death of an elderly Abbeville woman, Chief of Police Boyd Adams is once again asking for help from the public.
“After thoroughly investigating two leads as possible suspects,” said Adams, “evidence has cleared both subjects.
“As of now, it appears we are looking for a vehicle with a large bumper or possibly a bumper guard.”
The two-vehicle accident resulted in the death of 77-year-old Geraldine Chauvin from Abbeville.
Adams is asking for information if anyone saw the accident or knows of someone who suddenly has front damage to their vehicle. Adams is not saying if the vehicle could be a truck or a car.
According to Adams’ investigation of the accident that occurred on Friday, December 4 in front of Kaplan High School, as Chauvin was leaving Kaplan on La. 14 and heading towards Abbeville. She was rear ended by another vehicle, which caused her to lose control and drive into the other lane.
Her Buick Century, that she was driving, hit a GMC truck head-on. The truck was heading west into Kaplan at the time of impact.
Chauvin was pronounced dead at the scene. The others in the GMC truck and her passenger were transported to a local hospital.
La. 14 was closed for a couple of hours while Kaplan Police and State Police investigated the scene.
