Kaplan man charged in burglary
Joshua Rogers, 28, of 24405 Chestnut Road, Kaplan, was arrested for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and filing a false police report.
Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams reports that on the evening of July 17 at approx. 10:30 p.m., his officers were conducting an extra patrol request when they rolled upon a burglary in progress on West 5th street in Kaplan.
Officers advised they heard the sound of breaking glass and spotted the suspect under the carport with a bag in his hand. Officers gave foot chase through yards. The suspect was jumping fences and was lost shortly after the foot chase began.
Kaplan police K-9 was called to track the suspect. During the time all this transpired, 911 received a call from Joshua Rogers stating his car was stolen.
Whe officers met with Rogers, he gave a story that made no sense. As the questioning continuedabout the theft complaint, Rogers continued to give locations far away from the house that was burglarized.
When his phone was pinged to track the time of the call, it was discovered the call was made from the location of the residential burglary.
According to Chief Adams, Rogers is also a suspect in two other burglaries on the same night.
