Kaplan band teacher arrested

Kaplan Police investigated allegations of improper contact between a Kaplan High School teacher and a student.

Alex Hilliard, 26, of Lafayette, was arrested and charged with three counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He is an award-winning band director and an assistant baseball coach at the school.

He was transported to the Vermilion Parish jail. His bond was set at $30,000.

Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau could not comment on the arrest.
