Escaped Vermilion Parish inmate caught

Update: The inmate who escaped Friday morning from the Vermilion Parish Correction Center has reportedly been apprehended. More information on his capture will be released as it is made available.

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, at approximately 9:30 am, an offender assigned to the garden work program at the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center ran off the work site.
Offender Carl Robert Striggow, 26, of 10010 LA Hwy 82 Abbeville, LA was arrested on 09/10/2015 for simple burglary and has a $50,000 bond.
The offender was last seen near the parish jail wearing work jeans, no shirt and traveling on foot in a northerly direction from the parish jail. K9 track teams have been deployed, a perimeter watch has been set up near the parish jail and air searches.
“Although we do not believe this offender to be armed and dangerous, we strongly advise that if seen, DO NOT approach and call 911,” Sheriff Couvillon siad. “We also advise the public near the jail to practice safety by keeping the children in doors, take the keys out and lock the vehicles and remain indoors with all doors and windows locked. Call 911 immediately if dogs are barking and/or any white male subject is seen on foot crossing properties or walking on roadways.”
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office will provide updates when more information becomes available.
