Erath teen drowns in a bayou
ERATH - A friendly fishing trip in Erath turned tragic when a teen drowned after falling in.
According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon at approximately 2:08 p.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to a possible drowning at a canal bridge located on Charlie Field Road in Erath.
Upon arrival it was learned that an eighteen year old Erath resident and his juvenile cousin were fishing when the eighteen year old fell into the canal and never resurfaced.
Sheriff Couvillon says that members of the Sheriffs Marine Division and divers responded as well as first responders from the Erath and LeBlanc Fire Departments and began search efforts. After a brief search the eighteen year identified as Brett Dyson, of 4711 Mack Switch Road in Erath, was retrieved from the canal and pronounced deceased by the Vermilion Parish Coroners Office.
