The LeBlancs when they were first married.

Erath couple married 68 years

Written by Marla LeBlanc Gregg (their daughter)

On June 21, 1945, Aldon C. LeBlanc, known by most as Sug, and Belva were joined together in holy matrimony at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Coteau, Louisiana. Married on the cusp of World War II after being raised during The Great Depression, these two Valentines set out on a journey that continues today for over 68 years.
As we celebrate a day of love with romance, we are often drawn towards extravagance in flowers, jewelry or fine dining. Belva and Sug celebrated love differently.
Instead of flowers, they made a beautiful bouquet of family with 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Exotic diamonds weren’t placed on her hand but her hand is held still today. Fine dining wasn’t the extravagance as
providing for his family in abundance was the way they celebrated love. And as they live today in the comfort of their home they are able to because of their love and commitment to each other and their vows.
In a world where Scripture is often quoted, these two lovebirds act out their marriage in Biblical fashion. Together they have prayed, served, mourned and celebrated monumental memories in and with their church.
Today, they romantically stand strong together as they reflect on the good times and bad and without fail they continue to weather sickness and health.
May we all take time today to recognize the delayed gratification of treating the one you love like it’s Valentine’s Day every day! May we choose this day to be sweet but remember the sweetness that comes with years of loving someone. And most important, may we remember the greatest of all is indeed love! Happy Valentine’s Day, you two lovebirds!!!
