Crash claims life of Abbeville man

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to a vehicle crash on Boat Shop Road at 1:08 PM.
Sheriff Couvillon stated that when deputies arrived, it was determined that the vehicle was traveling East on Boat Shop Road and swerved to the right to miss an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle over-corrected, causing him to travel off the roadway to the left. The vehicle then traveled through a ditch, a field and came into contact with another ditch, where it came to rest. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected. The Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.
Sheriff Couvillon stated that the driver was identified as Raymond DeRouen, 55, of Abbeville.
Sheriff Couvillon also stated that toxicology results are pending.
