Comprehensive Resiliency Plan for Vermilion Parish wins award

The Comprehensive Resiliency Plan for Vermilion Parish (CRPVP) has received international recognition as a winner of a 2014 Silver Davey Award.
The International Davey Award is conducted by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), an invitation-only organization consisting of members from top professionals in media, advertising and marketing. Davey Award entries are evaluated to provide recognition for the highest standards of excellence in target-audience outreach and communications as judged by AIVA judges. Judges represent notable companies that are leaders in their industries and include Disney, GE, Microsoft, Monster.com, MTV, Sesame Workshops, Conde’ Nast and Yahoo!, among others.
Monday night, Kathy Ashworth of SIDES & Associates (SIDES) presented the Davey Awards trophy to Louisiana Department of Administration (DOA) representative, Angela Lawson, Vermilion Parish Police Jury (VPPJ) President, Ronald Menard and Vermilion Parish jurors and staff.
SIDES worked with Sellers & Associates to support the Vermilion Parish Resiliency Stakeholder Leadership Committee, along with assistance from ATCS planning services. Recognizing the ongoing threats to Vermilion Parish to natural and other disasters or disruptive events, the Stakeholder Leadership Committee developed a comprehensive resiliency plan for the unincorporated areas of Vermilion Parish through a Federal Housing and Development (HUD) grant administered through the Louisiana Office of Community Development (OCD).
The plan included outreach to Vermilion Parish citizens to identify citizen concerns, hopes and aspirations for the future of the Parish and identifying projects that will make the Parish stronger and better equipped to meet the challenges of future disasters. Resiliency is measured in part by how quickly communities “come back” after a major disruption like a disaster or emergency.
The Vermilion Parish Comprehensive Resiliency Plan provides a framework for Vermilion Parish citizens and leaders to build a Parish better prepared to minimize the effects of an emergency or disaster.

The Stakeholder Leadership group consists of 40 members, including:
