Alleged robber caught within 7 minutes
On Thursday, at 4 p.m., officers of the Abbeville Police Department were dispatched to CVS in Abbeville for an armed robbery.
Due to information given from a witness, the suspect, who was identified as Raymond Broussard Jr., was apprehended within seven minutes.
According to witnesses, Broussard entered the store shortly before 4 p.m.
Broussard approached the store clerk with an unknown item under his shirt demanding the money from the register.
He jumped the counter, and after a brief struggle with the clerk, Broussard grabbed an undisclosed amount of money and ran out the store. Shortly after, patrol officers were able to locate Broussard in the area.
Broussard was found to be in possession of the cash from the store. The item Broussard perpetrated as a gun was found to be a flashlight, which was also stolen from the store.
Broussard is currently on parole through the LA Department of Corrections and has two previous robbery convictions.
Abbeville Police Chief Tony Hardy said he would like to thank the officers who were involved in the swift arrest of Broussard.
“We would also like to thank the witnesses that assisted in the investigation,” Hardy said. “Without the witnesses, the suspect would not have been captured as quick.”
