Abbeville's Sellers honored for being American Legion Post 29er for 70 years

Many people would be happy to live to 70 years old. Murphy J. Sellers of Abbeville can brag and say he has been a member of the American Legion Post 29ers for 70 years.
He was recently honored by members of the Post 29ers at the Poster 29er banquet in Abbeville.
Sellers is 96 years old and served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Attending the ceremony were family members. Family members present were Sellers’ sons, Paul Sellers of Cameron, and Gerard Sellers of New Orleans, as well as his nephew, Francis Plaisance of Abbeville.
American Legion Vermilion Post 29 also honored Gale Luquette, of Abbeville, as “Citizen of the Year 2014” during the banquet.
Commander Willie Hymel presented Luquette with a
commemorative plaque for his leadership and community service. For many years, Luquette has worked with Parish Government Day. He is also vice president of the Cattle Festival Association. Luquette is an attorney, a state hearing officer for Vermilion and Acadia Parishes, and a judge for restraining orders.
He is married to the former Katti Richard. They have four children.
