`Abbeville traffic stop leads to marijuana arrest
A burnt tail-light traffic stop resulted in the finding of $5,500 worth of high-grade hydro marijuana by the Abbeville Police Department.
Recently, a patrol unit pulled over a vehicle on Graceland Street because the driver’s tail-light was out.
The officer approached the car and asked the driver for his insurance and registration papers.
The driver, Chavez Waters, gave the officers permission to search the vehicle after they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.
They located two bags of alleged marijuana on the passenger’s front seat and nine bags of alleged marijuana in the backseat behind the passenger’s side.
The total weight of the alleged marijuana was a half pound.
Waters was then arrested by the APD officers and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, no taillight, no insurance, no driver’s license and switched license plates.
He was booked into the Vermilion Parish Law Enforcement Center.
Another marijuana arrest
The day before, the Abbeville Police Department made a traffic stop on LeBlanc Street.
Jonathan Bell, the driver, began to flee the police. The officers caught up with Bell and arrested him.
When they checked Bell’s vehicle, the police located six small bags of marijuana. The license plate was also switched on the vehicle.
