Abbeville Police pursue subject, recover drugs, weapons Sunday

During the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 16, an officer with the Abbeville Police Department attempted to confront a black male subject who was standing on the edge of the roadway at the intersection of East Oak Street and North Bailey Street, with an open container of alcohol.
As the officer exited his vehicle, the subject fled on foot. The officer gave chase but lost the subject behind some residences.
Other officers came to the aid of the initial officer and began to check the area where the subject ran. While searching the area, officers located a plastic bag containing a large amount of marijuana in front of 700 East Oak Street.
The marijuana was packaged in vacuum sealed bags and totaled 1.8 pounds. The officers obtained a search warrant for the abandoned trailer and recovered 2 firearms, bullets, numerous gun magazines and a scale. This matter is still under investigation by the Abbeville Police Department.
Abbeville Police Chief Tony Hardy said he would like to thank the officers conducting this investigation for a job well done.
