Abbeville Police investigate multiple Monday shootings

The Abbeville Police Department kept busy Monday with officers responding to four different calls of gunfire.
The first report took place near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Schlessinger Street at approximately 10 p.m.
Officers observed a video from a local business which showed two black male subjects shooting at one another. The video showed one of the subjects enter a blue sedan and leaving the area.
A short time later, APD received a call from Abbeville General that they had a subject there being treated for a gunshot wound. The gunshot wound was not considered life threatening. The victim in this matter did not wish to assist the officers with the investigation.
“What is frustrating is when they don’t want to say who is shooting when they know who it is,” Abbeville Police Chief Tony Hardy said. “That is one of the biggest problems we run in to.
“Public assistance helps tremendously in these types of situations.”
While on the first scene, APD received a complaint that shots were being fired in the area of Super One Foods, which is located on Veteran’s Memorial Drive. Officers investigated the complaint but were unable to locate a scene.
At approximately, 11 p.m., APD responded to a “shots fired” complaint on the 800 block of South East Street. There, officers located numerous casings which indicated another gun battle between subjects.
A short time later, APD responded to a fourth shooting in the area of Vernon Street. Officers patrolled the area and searched for a crime scene but again were unable to locate anything.
APD is asking for the public’s assistance in these matters. APD is asking that anyone with information about these or any shootings, contact the police department at 337-893-2511. With the public’s assistance, the Abbeville Police Department will make every effort to remove the persons responsible for the violence, on our city streets.
