Abbeville Police arrest suspect in armed robbery

On Dec. 13, 2015, around 7:25 p.m., Abbeville Police Department was called to the 300 block of S. Lamar St. for an armed robbery that had just occurred.
An initial investigation revealed that the male and female victim were in the back yard of a residence when they were approached by a male subject. The subject pointed a handgun at the male victim and then took the female victim’s purse. The subject then fired a shot into the air and left the area on foot.
Investigators with Abbeville Police Department responded to the incident. During the investigation, Investigators were able to identify the suspect. Warrants of arrest were obtained for Crispen O’Brien, Jr. O’Brien, Jr., 17, was located and arrested at a residence on Maude Avenue. Investigators were able to recover some of the female victim’s property.
O’Brien, Jr. was charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, and Illegal use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities/Illegal Discharge of a Weapon. Bond was set at $125,000.00. O’Brien, Jr. was booked into Vermilion Parish Correctional Center.
On Dec. 14, 2015, while Investigators were conducting a separate investigation, a female approached and told Investigators that she had a gun pulled out on her the night before. The female victim provided details of the incident that were the same as the incident that initially led to the arrest of O’Brien, Jr. After gathering evidence, investigators obtained warrants of arrest for O’Brien, Jr. additionally charging him with Attempted Armed Robbery and Illegal Carrying of a Weapon. The bond on the new charges was set at $250,000. The warrants were delivered to the jail and served on O’Brien, Jr.
O’Brien, Jr. is currently incarcerated at Vermilion Parish Correctional Center and is being held on a $375,000 bond.
