Abbeville Police arrest Lafayette man

Abbeville Police arrested a Lafayette man late Wednesday on multiple gun and drug charges.
The arrest came as a result of extra patrol in the area.
“On the night of Wednesday, Aug. 12,” Abbeville Police Lt. David Hardy said, “officers with the Abbeville Police Department were working an extra detail due to the overwhelming gun violence.”
While patrolling the area of Oak and Hayes Streets, officers observed two subjects standing on the corner. The officers approached the subjects which led one of the subject to flee on foot. When the suspect fled, an officer gave chase. Another suspect was exiting a white Buick when he was detained by the officers. As other officers arrived on scene, they observed a gun sitting on the back passenger seat, where the subject had just exited. Officers also observed and recovered marijuana and MDMA which were on the dash of the vehicle.
Officers arrested Clifford J. Prejean (24) of Lafayette. Prejean was booked on the charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of MDMA (Schedule 1) with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Transactions Involving Drug Proceeds, Possession of a Firearm within a Firearm Free Zone, Possession of a Firearm in the presence of CDS and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The Abbeville Police Department will continue working operation of this sort in order to remove those who plague our city streets with drugs and violence,” Hardy said.
