There is a bullet hole through the front window.

Abbeville man shot and killed in his mobile home

Jeffrey Smith, 55, of Abbeville died from the result of a gun shot early Sunday morning while he was in his mobile home.
Around 5 a.m. Sunday, an Abbeville police unit was patrolling around “The Front” near Martin Luther King Drive when they heard what they thought was a gun shot.
Not long after hearing the gunshot, 911 received a telephone call from residents saying they heard a gun shot from the area of 804 Greene Street.
The police unit, a block away, arrived at the location. They discovered a hole through the front window of the mobile home. When they went in, they located Smith inside the mobile home.
Acadian Ambulance was called to the scene and transported Smith to Abbeville General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Lt. David Hardy of the Police Department said there were multiple casings found near the window. It does not look like a drive-by shooting, he added.
The weapon is believed to be a pistol.
Hardy did not have a motive for the killing. The police are searching for video that may have captured a suspect or vehicle near the mobile home at the time of the shooting.
This is the third homicide to occur in Abbeville this year.
