Abbeville man arrested again on drug-related charges
For the second time in four months, authorities have arrested an Abbeville man on multiple drug-related charges.
Abbeville Police arrested Jonathan Thibodeaux early Sunday and booked him into the Vermilion Parish jail after finding him with drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash. He remains in jail with one $20,000 bond, nine separate $10,000 bonds and one bond of $1,000. A search warrant led to the arrest.
“We executed a search warrant around 6 a.m. Sunday.,” Abbeville Police Department Lt. David Hardy said. “We had numerous hours of surveillance that prompted the request of the warrant.”
That brought police to a residence near the corner of North Bailey Street and East Oak Street.
“We recovered,” Hardy said, “numerous pounds of marijuana, crack cocaine, numerous Xanax pills and prescription cough syrup. We also recovered three firearms. One of them was reported stolen from somewhere in Vermilion Parish. I know it was reported by the sheriff’s office.
“There was also $7,000 in currency.”
Thibodeaux faces three counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, one count of Possession of Firearm with Controlled Dangerous Substance, one count of Possession of Schedule I Drug with Intent to Distribute, one count of Possession of Schedule II Drug with Intent to Distribute, one count of Possession of Schedule IV Drug with Intent to Distribute, one count of Transactions Involving Proceeds From Drug Offenses, one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, one count of Possession of Stolen Things, and one count of Possession of Prescription Pills without a Prescription.
This is not Thibodeaux’s first drug-related arrest this year. Agents with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Municipal Drug Task Force arrested Thibodeaux at the same residence in February.
A search of the home at that time led to the seizure of more than 15 pounds of suspected marijuana with a street value of more than $30,000, several prescription pills, crack cocaine, and items used for the sale and distribution of the illicit narcotic. Agents also seized $26,410 in suspected drug proceed monies.
Thibodeaux was arrested and charged then with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute a schedule IV narcotic, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, manufacturing of crack cocaine, and transactions involving drug proceeds.
Hardy said there was a female at the residence Sunday with Thibodeaux. She was not taken into custody.
“Thibodeaux is the only one being charged at this point,” Hardy said.
