Abbeville home, where murdered occurred last week, now scene of arson investigation
The scene of a shooting last week in Abbeville that left one man dead is now the scene of an alleged arson investigation.
The Abbeville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1444 South Louisiana Street early Monday morning. When they arrived, no one was in the house at the time.
The front of the house suffered the most fire damage.
The next morning, the Abbeville Police Department was contacted by the State’s Fire Marshal office because arson is suspected.
A week ago Monday, Jacolby Andrews, 25, was shot and murdered in front of the same house that now sits burnt.
A few days later, Jonathan Markelle Comeaux and brother Donathan Comeaux, who both live in the house, were arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.
Jonathan, who owns the house, was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm and Donathan was charged with obstruction of justice.
Lt. David Hardy, of the police department, suspects the fire was set because of retaliation of the shooting on Andrews. He is waiting on the state fire marshal’s report to determine what started the fire.
No arrests have been made in connection with the fire.
