Abbeville has big gain in sales tax collection

For the last two years, sales tax collection in Abbeville has been steady. It rises or drops three or four percent each month.
Not this past March.
For the first time in years, Abbeville experienced a large spike in collection by 17 percent.
A year ago in March, the city collected $303,000. This past March, the city collected $354,500 - a difference of $50,000.
Right under Abbeville with an increase in collection was Erath with a 14 percent increase or $4,000 more. The town recently collected $27,000.
The Abbeville Hospital District also showed a nice increase in sales tax collection with a 16-percent gain. The hospital district collected $278,000 in the month of March.
The City of Kaplan had a 6 percent increase for a total collection of $63,000 or $4,000 more than last year.
The School Board, Police Jury and Sheriff’s Office have all had an 8 percent increase in collections.
The news is not as positive for the Village of Maurice. The Village had a decrease of 21 percent from $63,000 down to $49,500.
The town of Gueydan also had a decrease of 15 percent. The town collected $15,000 or $2,500 less than a year ago.
The Kaplan Hospital Service District I had a 17 percent drop in collections. The hospital district collected $24,000 less than a year ago. The district collected $120,000.
