Abbeville Fire Department battles blaze on Graceland

No one was home Thursday when a house on Graceland Avenue in Abbeville went up in flames.
Members of the Abbeville Fire Department responded to the call shortly after 9 p.m.
“No one was hurt,” Abbeville Fire Chief Jude Mire said. “The woman who lives there said she was at the grocery store when it happened.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“They had the fire under control in about 20 minutes,” Mire said. “They stayed on the scene for about two hours, making sure that everything was taken care of.”
Thursday’s blaze marks a busy run for the Abbeville Fire Department.
“We have had 11 since July 4,” Mire said. “There’s nothing connected with all of them. It’s just something that has happened.
