VC’s Eagleline dance team wins big at UDA camp

The Vermilion Catholic Eagleline attended Universal Dance Association camp held at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge June 22-25.
The team’s performance at camp qualified them to attend the 2016 National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida and the 2016 Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
The UDA camp teaches the participants dance routines, technique and choreography. The UDA staff critiques the attendees and evaluates the dancers on their routine and spirit performance.
Vermilion Catholic placed third for their Home Routine that was choreographed by their coach and former VCHS Eagleline member, Michelle Noel. This competition routine was prepared prior to camp and performed on the first night for the UDA staff to critique.
The Eagleline Dance Team received a Superior Trophy Award. This award is given to teams with the highest average on evaluations all week. The members are evaluated individually on their dance routines and evaluated on their memory and showmanship. The team members were awarded 49 blue ribbons for their performances. Blue ribbons are the highest ribbons awarded each day.
Vermilion Catholic was awarded a “Full Out” ribbon for their superior job performance on their team routine, visuals and creative formations. Vermilion Catholic also received the 110 Percent Award, which is voted on by the UDA staff. This award is given for the full out effort of the team all week.
Vermilion Catholic was also awarded the Super Spirit Stick for their positive energy and attitude.
Two Eagleline members, Bailey Mire and Abbey Hebert, received the “Pin It Forward” award for their helpfulness and friendship to the other squads.
On Wednesday night, the teams celebrated the end of camp by having a music themed crazy night. The Eagleline decided to dress as cowgirls. During crazy night, UDA staff members announced those who tried out for All-American.
Two juniors and three seniors were selected as “All American” and have the opportunity to travel to London and perform with the Universal Dance Association for the London New Year’s Day Parade.
The Eagleline members that tried out for “All American” and were chosen based on their dance performance were Abbey Hebert, Caroline Landry, Laura Landry, Anne-Marie Marceaux, and Cailin Trahan.
The Eagleline had a very enjoyable camp experience and would like to thank their Coach Michelle Noel for her guidance and dedication. They would also like to thank their parents and the school community.
The VCHS Eagleline invites young girls ages pre-K to 8th grade to attend their upcoming Eagleline Dance Camp on Saturday, August 22, in which they will share the many skills they learned at camp, and give the girls the opportunity to perform at a home VC football game.
