Abbeville Garden Club receives awards at convention

Abbeville Garden Club members Sandra Creswell, Liz Gremillion, Gwen Lanoux and Patsy Hebert attended the 2015 Louisiana Garden Club Federation State Convention held April 21-23 in Lake Charles. The District VII Garden Clubs of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation welcomed members from many different state garden clubs to the convention themed Cajun Country “Joie de Vivre”. This was the 81st Annual Convention of LGCF, Inc.
Garden club members participated in business meetings and enjoyed outstanding speakers. Motivational speakers at the breakfasts, luncheons and banquets covered a variety of topics including “Louisiana Outback - The Creole Nature Trail”, “The Magic of Cooking and Garnishing with Edible Flowers”, “Feed Your Soil, It Will Feed Your Plants” and “Organic Gardening”.
Abbeville Garden Club was honored at the LGCF Award Banquet Dinner on Wednesday, April 22 with several awards. The awards received are listed as follows:
• Club achievement, Award #1, Gold Seal Certificate
• Horticulture Honor Roll, Award #5B, Gold Seal Certificate
• Special Conservation Award, Award # 11C
• Publicity Press Book, Award #22, 3rd Place
Members also attended the LGCF Installation Banquet on Thursday, April 23 where Jeanette Gatzman was installed as the 2015-2017 LGCF President. Her theme “Who Are We? Where Are We Going?” will be the emphasis for LGCF programs and projects during her term.
The Abbeville Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Deep South Region, and Louisiana Garden Club Federation, District III.
