The 4-H Personal Development Contest was held on November 14, 2013, at Abbeville High School. First place plaques are awarded to the top two 4-H’ers in the high school division. The plaques are given in loving memory of Laura Belle and Wilbert Hebert for their active 4-H leadership.

Will and Laura Bell, as they were known to their many friends and throughout the parish, were devoted to the 4-H Creed. From her high school years, Laura Belle served as president of her local club and in 1939 served as president of the Vermilion Parish Executive Committee. They both instilled that leadership, not only in their children, but in all youth. And that sense of leadership showed in their love of 4-H activities through their nine children. Not only were all nine children enrolled in 4-H, but showed leadership in their local club and parish executive committee.

Will and Laura Belle were adult leaders for twenty years, working with many children in many projects, but mostly using their energy and enthusiasm to get you people involved. Today, many of their grand-children and great grand-children are also 4-H club members.

The 4-H world will always remember Will and Laura Belle for their contributions, love and dedication to the Vermilion Parish 4-H Program.
