Wildcats win easy

After three tough losses in the Lafayette Tournament over the weekend, the Abbeville Wildcats needed a big win for team moral, and they got just that with a 88-37 victory over The Vermilion Catholic Eagles.

“It was a good win,” Abbeville Head Coach Berwick Hamilton said. “We have played a bunch of tough teams, and this was no exception. It is good for team morale for us to get this win. It gives us a little extra juice for the rest of the year.”

The Wildcats got up early on the Eagles, scoring 20 points in the first quarter, and only giving up nine to VC.

In the second quarter, point guard Desmond Taylor made sure that the Wildcats maintained the big lead over the Eagles.

Taylor scored 16 of his team high 21 points, in the second quarter.

The Wildacats at halftime had a 48-20 advantage over the Eagles.

The second half was much of the same, with Abbeville winning by the final score of 88-37.

The Eagles were at a bit of a disadvantage. Not only were they missing a good portion of their starters to the football team, but they were also missing their head coach.

Coach Roch Charpentier was with the football team, preparing for the State Championship game on Saturday.

Filling in for coach Charpentier was assistant coach Steven Adams.

“The silver lining from this game was we played hard from tip-off to the final horn,” Adams said. “That is the thing that is most impressive about this team; they play hard all the time.”

Leading the way in scoring for the Wildcats was Taylor, who put up a team and game high 21 points.

Nadgerion Moutin and Tristin Greene each added 11, and Jordan Brooke netted 10 of his own.

Donnie Comeaux led the way for the Eagles with 12 points. Ethan Menard and Peyton Theriot were right behind Comeaux with nine and eight respectively.

Abbeville will now face off against North Vermilion.
