Patriots win at home

The first half has been the Achilles heel of the North Vermilion Patriots all year long, and even though, Friday night, they had the home court advantage they were still unable to get off to a quick start.

Despite the slow start by the offense the defense was able to hold on, as the Patriots defeated Jennings by the final score of 44-40.

The first quarter started out much the same way most of the first quarters have started for the Patriots, slow.

The Patriots were only able to score six points in the first quarter.

Fortunately for the offense the Patriot defense stepped up and only allowed Jennings to score eight in the first quarter.

Mike Bessard and Nick Cooper teamed up to score all six points for the patriots in the first quarter.

Bessard scored four of the six.

The second quarter was much of the same for the Patriots, as they again, only managed to score six points.

This time Bessard and Cooper had a little help as Jordan Windmon scored his first two points in the second.

Again, much like the first quarter the defense for the Patriots were on top of their game and only allowed Jennings to score seven points.

When halftime rolled around the Patriots found themselves in a 15-12 hole.

They knew without the defensive prowess the deficit could have been much worse.

The third quarters for the Patriots have been their best quarters of basketball.

All year long has been like a reawakening for the Patriots coming out of halftime, and this third quarter was no different.

The Patriots came out and did what they normally do in the third quarter, erase the deficit and take a lead.

North Vermilion came out and scored 21 points in the third quarter.

Thanks in large part to the nine points put up by Mike Bessard.

Dade Dieterich, Donald Comeaux, Tre LEvy and Jordan Widmon added the other 12 points.

The defense for the Patriots still played tough as they only allowed Jennings to score 13 points.

Heading into the fourth quarter the Patriots had overcome a three point hole, and turned it into a five point lead.

In the forth quarter, Jennings would make a run and everytime they would attempt to get back in the game the Patriots would stand strong and make a big stop.

Jennings was able to outscore the Patriots in the fourth quarter, but only by one, 12-11.

When they fourth quarter buzzer sounded the Patriots had given the home crowd something to yell about as they came out victorious, 44-40.

Leading the way in scoring for the Patriots was Mike Bessard.

Bessard scored a team and game high 22 points.

16 of Bessard’s 22 points came in the third and fourth quarters,

Behind Bessard was Nick Cooper, who scored six points. Four of Cooper’s points came in the slow going first quarter.

Donald Comeaux, Tre Levy and Jordan Windmon were each able to add four apiece.

Dade Dieterich scored all three of his points in the third quarter.

Jawuan Windmon rounded out the scoring for the Patirots with free throw made in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots record now stands at 10-4.

North Vermilion, with this win, has won four of its last five basketball games.

The Patriots will now prepare to take on Westminster Christian, who they will host at the North Vermilion gym Monday.

Tip off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
