Patriots fall to Porte Barre

The North Vermilion Patriots, heading into the match-up with Port Barre were riding a three game winning streak and had won four of their last five basketball games.

Unfortunately for the Patriots the winning streak was stopped at three, with a 54-44 loss to Port Barre.

The Patriots all season long have had the problem of getting off to a very slow start and this game was no different.

In the first quarter the Patriots offense was only able to score nine total points.

Donald Comeaux and Nic Cooper combined to score seven of those nine points.

The defense for the Patriots allowed 18 points.

The second quarter was not much better for the Patriots.

The offense seemed to take a step backward and only scored six points in the second quarter.

Four of the six points were made via the free throw line.

The defense held a little tougher though, only allowing Port Barre to score 10 points in the second quarter.

When the halftime buzzer sounded the Patriots found themselves in a 28-15 hole.

All season long the third quarter has been when the Patriots have played some of their best basketball.

This third quarter was no different.

The Patriots were able to score 15 points in the third quarter, the most points they would score in any quarter.

Jordan Windmon and Mike Bessard teamed up to score all 15 points. Bessard scored eight and Windmon scored seven in the third quarter.

Despite the offense having its best quarter, the defense allowed 16 points and the Patriots fell even further behind.

The fourth quarter came and saw the Patriots behind by 14 points.

In the fourth quarter the Patriots were able to outscore Port Barre 14-10, but it wasn’t enough.

Even though the Patriots fought to the end, it just wasn’t enough to overcome the hole they found themselves in early in the game.

Port Barre won by the final score of 54-44.

Leading the way in scoring for the Patriots was Mike Bessard with 14 points.

Bessard scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.

Right behind Bessard in scoring was Jordan Windmon, who scored 13 points.

All of Windmon’s points came in the second half .

Nic Cooper and Donald Comeaux each were able to add six points apiece.

Dade Dieterich and Jawauan Windmon each added two.

Tre Levy rounded out the scoring for the Patriots with one point.

The Patriots record now stands at 9-4.

The Patriots have three more games on the schedule before district play begins.

The next two games against Jennings and Westminster Christian will be held at the North Vermilion gym.
