Gallet takes home Offensive MVP

If you only got to look at the box score of the Vermilion Catholic Eagles, one thing would stand out, their ability to score early and often.

That offense is led by the 2013 Parish Offensive MVP Brennan Gallet.

“It is an honor to win this award,” Gallet said. “The credit isn’t all mine, though. I have an amazing team that did amazing things. If it weren’t for the likes of Connor (Menard), Mike (Campbell) and Emile (Trahan) making all the
plays they did, I wouldn’t be here talking to you. Any one of those players, and any other player in the parish deserves this award. I’m just honored to have been chosen.”

The season didn’t start out so well for Gallet.

In the first game of the year, Gallet threw five interceptions.

After that game, though, Gallet got his game together and went on to finish the season with only nine interceptions.

Along with only throwing nine interceptions he also finished the year with 2, 974 passing yards and a whopping 38 touchdowns.

Gallet played his best though in the playoffs. He completed 54 of the 86 passes he attempted in the playoffs.

He also threw for 885 yards, and threw 14 touchdowns to only one interception.

“Oh man, Brennan is lights out,” VC Head Coach Russell Kuhns said. “I think if you take away the five picks he had in the first game, he finishes the season with only four picks. I think that first bad game spring boarded him
to have the season that he did. They way he battles through adversity is amazing.

“He has been our engine and our leader on the offensive side of the ball all year long, and I couldn’t be more proud of the way that he played this season.”

Even though Gallet was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Division IV State Championship game, and now he has been named the Parish Offensive MVP, he is still humble and accredits his team for all the accolades
that he receives.

“It was a productive season, to say the least,” Gallet said. “Our hole team played well all year that’s really how we were all able to put up the numbers that we did. Everyone put up big numbers this year, and that’s because
of the team chemistry, and the way we bond together as a team. So me winning this award is just a reflection of how well my team played all season long.”

Gallet is a senior this and has to cope with the fact that his high school football career is over.

“I have just had so much fun,” Gallet said. “I think the thing I am going to miss most is the rest of my team. I maid some really good friends and I’m going to miss playing with them every Friday night.”

Although for Gallet, it is going to be pretty hard to go out in more style than he did.

Gallet won a district title, went undefeated, won the State Championship and was named Most Outstanding Player in the Championship game.

On top of that he was selected as the QB for the 1A All-State team and the District 7-1A team. That is one heck of a way to leave your high school career.
