Eagles’ wings clipped by Vikings

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles hadn’t been able to remove the goose egg from the win column until it played in the 2013 Yuletide Classic.

VC won its first game of the year against, Gueydan, by the final score of 47-19.

The Eagles then found themselves on a winning streak after it defeated the Erath Bobcats, 53-33, in the second round of the tournament.

The finals is where the Eagles two-game winning streak would come to an end. The Eagles lost to the Vikings of Opeloussas Catholic by the final score of 54-38.

The first half seemed promising for the Eagles. At the end of the first quarter the Eagles were only down by five, thanks to a three-point shot by Mike Campbell, as the buzzer sounded to end the first quarter.

After putting up 13 in the first quarter the Eagles would struggle for the rest of the game.

In the second quarter the Eagles were only able to score six points and found themselves in a 27-19 hole.

The second half would only see things get worse for the Eagles.

The third quarter the Eagles were only able to manage five points. The fourth quarter is where the offense picked it up a little, scoring 14 in the quarter, but by then it was too little too late.

The Eagles fell to the Vikings 54-38.

“I’m really proud of the effort the boys put out,” Head Coach Roch Charpentier said. “Sometimes when you are in these situations, they (the team) can just give up and quit. They didn’t do that. I’m proud of the way they
played”

Mike Campbell led the way in scoring with nine points.

Not far behind him was Wes Meaux, who added seven points of his own.

Chris Campbell, Brennan Gallet and Shay LaPorte all got in on the scoring, as they each added six points apiece.

Drake Broussard rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with four points.
